Appreciating Donald Murray
(a/k/a, “Quit trying to make pigs out of sausage.”)
This used copy of Writing for Your Readers cost me US$2.97 used on Amazon Marketplace. So, imagine my surprise yesterday, when it arrived and I opened it to discover it’s autographed by Don Murray. With a funny little self-portrait doodle and all!
Made my day. Plus, it seems like a good omen, right?

Someone Else: Q.
Me: Inspiration is a tricky subject, and one in which artists like myself find it a little difficult to discuss (mainly because I lack any semblance of self-awareness). I'd say I was most inspired by hasthelhcdestroyedtheearth.com mainly because I'm really interested in whether the earth has indeed been destroyed (since my physical form needs earth for sustenance).
Someone Else: Q.
ME: I wrote it on a Macbook Pro purchased specifically for creating isit2009yet.com. I figured if I was going to spending so much time working on this beautiful website I would need a workhorse computer (not to mention sexy).
Someone Else: Q.
ME: Well SE, that's an interesting question. I guess the world deserves an answer. Your probably thinking it was some technical glitch related to some bad leap year code, but it wasn't. Your probably thinking it was just a simple FAIL where some dude was going to manually update it at midnight local time but forgot to because he was at this really kick-ass party and it never crossed his mind, but it wasn't. No, it wasn't those things. It was a commentary on how dependent we've all become of technology, and especially these new "Single Serve Sites". I've never seen a "SSS" fail, and so I started relying on them for everything. Finding out about the election, whether it was, in fact, a tuesday, and confirming my suspicions that the world had not yet been destroyed. I found myself not able to make a decision unless there was an appropriate SSS that would help me out (which made things in the bedroom a bit awkward). Finally I had a wakeup call when my laptop broke and I accidently spent more than 3 hours away from the internet. I rediscovered the physical in those three hours, and by making isit2009yet.com fail so horribly, I hope that maybe I can pull a couple of more souls out from the fake and into the real.

What Has Driven Women Out of Computer Science? →
A slight rehashing of already exposed ideas on why women are becoming decreasingly represented in Computer Science. There are many different theories, but one statement, I think, can be considered plainfully true: that Software Engineering would be much better off with a healty balance. Attending RubyConf with 500 other males and a half dozen woman was depressing, disheartening, and creepy. ...

Changing Default.png is impossible
If you launch the “Clocks” application made by apple, switch to a new tab, close the application, and then launch it again, you’ll notice the “Default.png” image has changed. This is in fact impossible to do unless you are Apple, so please, save the 4 hours and work on something else.
Local iPhone 3G sues developers for "Gross Abuse"...
In perhaps a sign of things to come, a local iPhone has filed a lawsuit against area developers claiming they “Grossly Abused” its SDK. “I just can’t believe it,” remarked the 1 year old iPhone as it exited the courtroom Friday afternoon, “what they’ve done to me can never be undone.” Clearly distraught, the iPhone’s lawyer had to continue...

Get good at iPhone app development
marco:
I keep getting emails from people who want me to develop iPhone apps for them. The very few people I know who have this ability are booked solid for the indefinite future. There’s a big market here for developers.
If you’re looking to learn a new programming language and platform, and you’re at least moderately familiar with C, I strongly suggest that you look into this.

Turns out F-script is this really slick set of tools for “scripting” Cocoa applications. You can even inject it into existing applications and explore the application. The F-script shell makes my mouth water.
